Hip and Knee Strengthening for Patellofemoral Pain

Hip and Knee Strengthening Is More Effective Than Knee Strengthening Alone for Reducing Pain and Improving Activity in Individuals With Patellofemoral Pain: A Systematic Review With Meta-analysis: Journal can be found here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/29034800/

These injuries are common among all populations and are seen regularly in the sports injury clinic. Above is a great article that discusses the importance of hip and knee strengthening for clients suffering from patellofemoral pain syndrome in comparison to knee strengthen alone. It concludes that a combination of strengthening is superior to reduce pain and improve recovery. This is unsurprising as injuries will cause issues throughout the kinetic chain and will effect other areas of the body causing mal-allighnment and muscle imbalances. This places the individual at further risk of injury. It is therefore important to look at the whole body and not just the injured area especially as other pathology's may also link to the mechanism of injury.
